response to The Turtle

The Turtle by John Steinbeck is from his famous novel called the Grapes of wrath. I think that John Steinbeck did an awesome job in describing the turtle's view very descriptively. He used scenic modes to make his story more detailed. The turtle faces a lot of obstacles such as cars, and slopes. In my opinion, I think that the turtle represents the poor people that faced a lot of problems such as feeding their family, selling their houses. Therefore, I think that the story is about how they get over it and the other obstacle comes and that same pattern keeps repeating.

Photo essay

In page 928 the bottom picture we see six the bottom picture, we see six men desperately waiting for something, holding a piece of paper. In front of them, there is a man with tidy hair and looks as if he has a suit on. I think these six men are selling their lands to feed their families. Next to the picture there is a quote saying “It’s the kids. A man can get hungry and it ain’t so bad. A man gets sick when the kids are hungry.” We can see how poor these people’s lives were. Another picture is the one on page 930. There are two women carrying a bucket full of water, and is heading to a container. Under them there are water that are up to their legs which seems that there has been a flood. Next to the picture there is a quote “The company lets us live in ‘em when we’re pickin’ cotton…This tells that a lot of women had to work also had to work because they were so poor. The last picture is on the top of page 932. There is a man who seems to be a lumberjack. Next to the picture, there is a quote saying “The whole thing’s nuts. There’r work to do and people to do it, but them can’t get together. There’s food to eat and people to eat it, and them two can’t get together neither. In this quote Steinbeck is commenting on the senselessness of all that was going on in the Great Depression. He is comparing the workers as the poor people and the food eaters as the rich people.

The flood

The flood by John Steinbeck is very descriptive in showing what’s going on. He is so descriptive that we can easily envision everything that Steinbeck describes very clearly. His tone is sad, desperate among theses people that are poor, and feeling sorry for the poor people. The colloquialism used in this chapter of a book makes it hard to understand to understand what they’re saying but it adds more sense of real.

Brutus and his follows of the chivalric code

The code of chivalry includes honor, chastity, loyalty, courage, honesty, and courtesy. The character Brutus from the play ‘Julius Caesar’ follows some of the chivalric code. For honor, because he always tries to do things honorably he fits in the trait of honor. Secondly, chastity he doesn’t follow him. Since he was married this shows that he doesn’t have chastity. Thirdly, for loyalty he kind of follows it. Although he wasn’t loyal to his king Caesar and killed him, he was loyal to his country Rome. Fourthly, for courage, he defiantly had it because no one would have had any courage to kill their own king of the country. Fifthly, he didn’t follow the trait honesty. He wasn’t honest to his wife and the king and lied to both of them. Lastly, for courtesy I don’t think he followed courtesy because he killed the king, and was arrogant to the commoners. Therefore, I don’t think that Brutus follows the code of chivalry well.

The Role of Government

In the play Antigone Creon comes out to be the king of Thebes after Eteocles. As he becomes the king, he kind of becomes the dictator of Thebes. He makes a rule that whoever buries the dead body of Polyneices (traitor of Thebes) will get punished. However Antigone breaks the rule of Creon and try to bury Polyneices’s body but gets caught. Then eventually Antigone avoids being killed but gets locked up in a cave. Creon implies “Whoever is chosen to govern should be obeyed-Must be obeyed, in all things, great and small, Just and unjust!” (Antigone 2.35-38) to Haemon who is his son. This shows that he is a tyranny ruler and everybody fears him. So no one yet has been against Creon because they have fear that if they do they will get killed. So they just say the good things about Creon fearing death. On the other hand, Haemon has a different way of thinking about the government; democracy. I think the good example of the thinking of democracy is when Haemon says “Yet there are other men who can reason, too; and their opinions might be helpful. You are not in a position to know everything.” (Antigone 3.55-58). This shows that Haemon thinks that the government belongs to the people. Not just to the king.

The Role of Fate

In the play Antigone many things were cursed by the gods, such as Oedipus’s curse by the gods. Moreover Oedipus’s two suns have a war because they both wanted to be the king. However the brothers end up getting killed by each other. After their death Creon becomes the king of Thebes. He makes a rule whoever takes Polyneices’s dead body and bury him they will get punished. After failing to persuade Ismene to go with her and bury Polyneices, Antigone goes alone and tries to bury Polyneices. However, Antigone gets caught and after has an argument with Creon. In this argument both people are strong of their opinion. Antigone answers to Creon “I dared. It was not god’s proclamation. That final justice That rules the world below makes no such laws.” (Antigone 2.57-59). This showed me that Antigone was stubborn about burying Polyneices body as the god’s rule, or rights. Also when Creon says “Go join them, then; if you must have your love, Find it in hell!”(Antigone 2.118-120).I think Creon is proud in a rude way. In addition I think that even though Thebes had its own curse, it could have been better if Antigone was less stubborn and Creon was less proud. The reason is that if Antigone was less stubborn then she would have followed, and admired the higher people well and if Creon was less proud he would have understood other people’s feelings, like the citizen’s minds. But I think that because of these things it makes the play much more interesting

Movie vs. Play

The similarities between movie and the play is that they both have the same theme since the movie is made out of the play. Also the plays have acts and scenes so the actors could rest. Furthermore, movies can have impossible things that can't happen in the real world. The differences between movies and plays is that in movies some skip parts of play. Also it adds more romantic things, love themes, ect which makes it more fun to watch.Between the play, and the movie of "Julius Caesar" I liked the movie more than the play. The reason is that while you see the movie you can follow along with the pictures shown. However, if you read the play, you have to keep imagining the picture while you read.

My opinion about Shakespeare

Shakespeare has wriiten a lot of good and famous plays in his life and is loved by a lot of people. However, I don't really like shakesphere. The reason is that his stories has old words that are hard to pronounce and difficult to know what it means. His stries are boring. I don't see why people love his work so much.
