response to The Turtle

The Turtle by John Steinbeck is from his famous novel called the Grapes of wrath. I think that John Steinbeck did an awesome job in describing the turtle's view very descriptively. He used scenic modes to make his story more detailed. The turtle faces a lot of obstacles such as cars, and slopes. In my opinion, I think that the turtle represents the poor people that faced a lot of problems such as feeding their family, selling their houses. Therefore, I think that the story is about how they get over it and the other obstacle comes and that same pattern keeps repeating.

Photo essay

In page 928 the bottom picture we see six the bottom picture, we see six men desperately waiting for something, holding a piece of paper. In front of them, there is a man with tidy hair and looks as if he has a suit on. I think these six men are selling their lands to feed their families. Next to the picture there is a quote saying “It’s the kids. A man can get hungry and it ain’t so bad. A man gets sick when the kids are hungry.” We can see how poor these people’s lives were. Another picture is the one on page 930. There are two women carrying a bucket full of water, and is heading to a container. Under them there are water that are up to their legs which seems that there has been a flood. Next to the picture there is a quote “The company lets us live in ‘em when we’re pickin’ cotton…This tells that a lot of women had to work also had to work because they were so poor. The last picture is on the top of page 932. There is a man who seems to be a lumberjack. Next to the picture, there is a quote saying “The whole thing’s nuts. There’r work to do and people to do it, but them can’t get together. There’s food to eat and people to eat it, and them two can’t get together neither. In this quote Steinbeck is commenting on the senselessness of all that was going on in the Great Depression. He is comparing the workers as the poor people and the food eaters as the rich people.

The flood

The flood by John Steinbeck is very descriptive in showing what’s going on. He is so descriptive that we can easily envision everything that Steinbeck describes very clearly. His tone is sad, desperate among theses people that are poor, and feeling sorry for the poor people. The colloquialism used in this chapter of a book makes it hard to understand to understand what they’re saying but it adds more sense of real.
